The 3mm Society was formed over 40 years ago to support 3mm:1ft
railway modelling. In the early days much 3mm modelling was based on Triang
TT3 locos and rolling stock and GEM and Bec kits, but the 3mm Society was
quick to develop finer standards and to promote more advanced modelling. Over
the years the 3mm Society has encouraged independent traders to support 3mm
scale, but has also produced its own huge range of items such as loco and
rolling-stock wheels, loco, coach, and wagon kits, track components and a
large range of accessories and scenic items. For the many members who still
run vintage Triang stock the 3mm Society offers support services and recycles
second-hand items at sensible prices.
The 3mm Society is a scale society, not a gauge society. Its
members model in various gauges including 12mm (the original TT gauge), 13.5
and 14.2mm fine-scale standard gauge, 15.75mm (Irish) and 6.5 and 9mm narrow
gauges. All 3mm modellers, whether fine-scale scratch builders, kit builders
or those maintaining a classic Triang system, coexist happily in The 3mm Society.
