During the 19th Century a number of Railways and Tramways were constructed throughout Ireland. One of the most famous narrow gauge railways was the one now known as the Giants Causeway Tram, officially called the Giants Causeway, Portrush and Bush Valley Railway and Tramway Company Limited. The Tram operated from Portrush through Bushmills to the Giants Causeway. The first tram (ran for the public) on the 29th of January 1883. The last tram ran on the 30th of September 1949. The Tram is famous because it is believed to be the first hydro-electric powered railway in the world.
